The Bristol & District Junior Golf League was set up some years ago, its origins being lost in the mists of time. Certainly it was in existance during the 1970's when Mr. Des Alexander was the secretary.
The League operates to give young golfers the opportunity to play golf against other young golfers in a match-play situation and to give them a taste of competitive golf in a friendly atmosphere, supervised by adults.
There are 13 clubs divided into 2 sections. Matches are played on a home and away basis using EGU reccommendtions of full handicap allowance, with girls receiving courtesy shots accordingly. The winners of each section play off at the end of the season on a neutral course to decide the overall champions.
There are League Finals played every year, each club entering a team of four players, two with handicaps under 18 and two 18 and over. The format is stableford with the best three scores to count.
There is a 'Management Committee' consisting of three elected Junior Organisers plus the Secretary. This committee deals with any disputes which cannot be mutually resolved by the clubs.
Naturally there are some rules or guidelines to help clubs, organisers and players but these are kept to a minimum so as not to be restrictive. Application to join the league is simple. A club with junior golfers just applies to the secretary and they are considered and invited to become members depending on geographical location.
Thank you for visiting our site. We hope you found it interesting and if you would like to find out more, please feel free to contact us. Good luck and good golf.
It is hoped that organisers will give as many players as possible the opportunity to play in the league matches.
It is expected that home clubs will offer drivers and escorts a courtesy round of golf, but this is by no means a statutory right, and visiting clubs are asked to check in advance and not to abuse this sanction and to limit the number to four players unless previously agreed for more.
The league championship is decided by a play off between the division winners at the end of each season.
