Bristol & District Junior Golf League

Welcome

The Bristol & District Junior Golf League was set up some years ago, its origins being lost in the mists of time. Certainly it was in existence during the 1970's when Mr Des Alexander was the secretary.

There is a 'Management Committee' consisting of three elected Junior Organisers plus the Secretary. This committee deals with the general running of the league and any disputes which cannot be mutually resolved by the clubs. The committee meets at least three times per year plus an AGM meeting with other club representatives in the autumn.

Participation is open to all clubs within the geographical area who have a junior section able to field a team of 5 junior players (league cup) and 6 junior golfers, (knock-out cup) within the handicap criteria. (See rules below)
Application to join the league is simple. A club with junior golfers just applies to the secretary, they are considered and invited to become members depending on geographical location. Each club may enter up to 2 teams.

An annual subscription is payable by each club, currently £50.00, for each team entered, and payment of this subscription will be deemed as acceptance of the league rules.

Matches are played using England Golf recommendations of full handicap allowance.

Naturally there are rules and guidelines to help clubs, organisers and players and these are outlined below.

It is expected that juniors demonstrate high standards of behaviour and conduct and respect the club environments, club and match officials, other juniors, accompanying adults and other club members.

It is expected that home clubs will offer drivers and escorts a courtesy round of golf, but this is by no means a statutory right. Visiting clubs are asked to check, in advance, not to abuse this sanction and to limit the number to four players unless previously agreed for more.

It is expected that home clubs provide food, following league matches, but not following knock-out matches, for team players, travelling reserves and team managers of the day.

In addition to the league matches,(singles match play) there is  the Knock-out Cup (foursomes match play), The Bob Perkins Inter-League Trophy (singles match play) against the North Gloucestershire Junior Alliance League and The Alexander Trophy ( stableford competition) taking place each year.

Thank you for visiting our website. We hope you found it interesting. If you would like any further information, then please feel free to contact either the League Secretary or any members of the committee. Good luck and happy golfing.
