Alexander Trophy 2011 - Final Results

Competition Report

The programme was a bit chaotic to start with as I had left the start sheet at home.

Fortunately David arrived early with the Saltford team and we were able to take a copy. The weather was cold and damp due to sea mist over the course. 9.30 came and the first group teed off.

 

Then it was shuffle players all over the start sheet to make up threes but eventually it all came together. Interesting to note that of 30 players no one had driven out of bounds off the first tee. Someone made a birdie, par, birdie, birdie start and then the wheels came off!! We've all been there!!

 

As I walked the course later I was told that I learned that Caley McGinty from Knowle had completed the front 9 in 39 shots. Amazing!! Handicap of 32 and she had done that!! I had assumed it was her gross score but alas, it was her nett score, but nonetheless, it was very good in the conditions at the time.

Clevedon secretaries had kindly set up the computer so that recording and checking results was very easy.

 

No holes in one today, but 4 players had birdie 2's but not one them had entered the 2's club, so the league benefitted with a small amount to go in the bank! Disappointing that so many clubs did not enter a team for various reasons. They all missed a great day out, on a very good course and it would have cost them nothing. Pity However, with 74 points The Park managed to pip Saltford into winning the Shield by virtue of the third player's score.

 

Jack Rhys-Jones from Saltford had the best score with 39pts for the under 18 hcp and with the same score Carys Parker from Kendleshire (Blacks) took the 18hcp and over. It was good to see so many young golfers enjoying themselves both on and off the course.

I must say a very great thankyou to David Phillips and Tony Brown for their help with the starting sheet, and also to the Secretaries of Clevedon for their assistance for contributing to making the day a success.
